The UEFA Champion League is the most prestigious continental football competition for club teams organized by UEFA. In the 68th edition of the Champions League, Manchester City became the 23rd club to win the competition, and the sixth English club. Thus bringing English clubs to 15 trophies won in the entire history of the competition.
However, as is known, the trophy is then reconsigned to UEFA two months before next year’s Final and the winners are still given a replica of the cup, which since 2009 has been the same size as the original trophy.
Before 2009, only clubs that won three consecutive tournaments or five in all could have the original trophy, and a new cup was being prepared for next year. Only five clubs hold the original trophy:
Real Madrid obtains the original trophy after winning their sixth trophy in the 1965-66 season at the time called the European Cup.
Ajax who won the original trophy after dominating Europe for three consecutive editions 1970-71, 1971-72, 1972-73.
Bayern Munich who, after Ajax, also won three consecutive editions of the Champions League 1973-74, 1974-75, 1975-76.
The Grande Milan of Fabio Capello who after winning the fifth Champions League in the 1993-94 edition was awarded the original trophy.
Liverpool were the last team to obtain the original trophy after winning their fifth trophy in Istanbul against AC Milan in the 2004-05 edition.
