The history of German football is very complex.
At the beginning of the 1900s it was played in direct matches as a cup format then it was played in different regional leagues and the top two teams of each Oberligen which was called at the time played in the playoffs it was not a league proper.
The structure of the Bundesliga we know today was created in the 1963-1964 season all these changes were made to be more competitive at national level, also considering the difficulty of the German national team in the World Cup in Chile where they lost 1-0 against Yugoslavia.
In Soviet-occupied Germany the same format was maintained until the fall of the Berlin Wall where the teams were placed in the current format of the Bundesliga.
The team that has won the most championships in the Bundesliga is Bayern Munich with an all-time record 32, they are also the team that has done better in Europe than any other team by winning six Champions Leagues, one Europa League, and two Uefa Super Cups.
