Community Shield Winners List

The FA Community Shield has been held since 1908 where the winners of the English championship and the winners of the FA Cup face each other.

This year was the 101st edition which saw Arsenal winners for the seventeenth time. The most successful team is Manchester United who have won the title 21 times.
Over the years the format of the competition has changed a lot. In the beginning when a match ended in a draw the title was divided between the two teams, and this happened several times such as in the years 1949, 1954, 1960, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1977, 1981, 1986, 1990, 1991. Then it was decided that when the match ended in a draw we would go to the penalty shootout roulette.

Six times the matches were played for charity and the trophy was contested between the English Professional XI which was a team with professional players and the English Amateurs XI which consisted of players from the amateur leagues, and was formed as amateur players they had no chance of being included in the English national team given the big difference in level. English Amateurs was formed in 1901 and existed until 1974. In 1950 the match was played by the squad of the England national team for the World Cup in Brazil 1950 and an English team which toured Canada the same year.
